Paxil (Paroxetine) Medication

Paxil is the brand name of paroxetine. Paxil belongs to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) category. It controls the unbalanced chemicals of the brain that cause depression, panic, or obsessive compulsive symptoms.

Paxil is the medicine generally used to cure obsessive-compulsive disorder, social phobia, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Paxil medications

This medicine should be consumed as prescribed by the doctor. Paxil may take 4 weeks to show its effect. It is recommended not to stop taking paxil suddenly, as this may have unpleasant side effects. Paxil can be consumed with or without food.

Paxil side effects

Contact your doctor if you experience any mood changes, panic attacks, sleeping trouble, irritability, aggressiveness, or agitation.

Common and less serious side effects of paxil are

* Insomnia
* Headache
* Dry mouth
* Decrease in sex drive, impotency
* Change in weight
* Nausea
* Vomiting

Consult your doctor if you face these less serious side effects of paxil. However, you can continue with the drug paxil. One should not overdose paxil as this may cause serious side effects. If you detect any overdose immediately seek medical treatment.
