Butalbital in combination with acetaminophen is used to treat tension headache. This medicine comes in the form of tablets for oral consumption. It works as an immediate-acting barbiturate.

This medicine is to be taken strictly as prescribed by the doctor. One should not consume this medicine for longer period than prescribed as this medicine is habit forming. It is recommended that one should avoid consumption of alcohol while butalbital treatment is going on. It may increase the chances of liver damage.

Regular visits should be made to the doctor to monitor any dosage side effects. There might be a need to alter the butalbital dosage if one is taking birth control pills, corticosteroids, doxycycline, quinidine, or medicine for high blood pressure.

Do not take dose more than prescribed as overdose may bring some serious side effects. Few of the symptoms of butalbital overdose are as under:

* Excessive sweating
* Dark urine
* Loss of consciousness
