Benzaclin Information

Benzaclin is a topical prescription medication which can treat acne effectively. It is developed by Dermik Laboratories, a business of the Sanofi-Aventis US. Benzaclin topical gel constitutes two active acne fighters namely benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin. Benzoyl peroxide is effectual in reducing the inflammation of acne. Clindamycin fights bacteria and reduces the inflammation of pimples. Benzaclin topical gel is only available with a prescription.

Usage
Benzaclin should be applied when one needs to get out of acne vulgaris. Generally it is applied in the infected area twice a daily but a doctor’s advice must prevail in case of any contradictory statement.

How to use
Benzaclin should be applied as advised by the doctor. It should be applied after washing the affected area with mild soap and warm water and letting it dry.

Side effects
Like everything has its pros and cons, and so applies to Benzaclin topical gel too. Though Benzaclin is mostly well-tolerated, usage of Benzaclin may source side effects such as:

» Peeling
» Itchiness
» Dryness
» Sensitivity to sun

Ask for medical support, incase these or any other side effects become bothersome.
It is also negated in individuals having a history of regional enteritis, antibiotic-related colitis or ulcerative colitis. Diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, and pseudomembranous colitis have been accounted with topical clindamycin. It is recommended to discontinue Benzaclin if significant diarrhea develops.

Notify your doctor concerning your medical record to avert any complication due to Benzaclin usage. Women with child- bearing potential, pregnant women, breast-feeding mothers, and children below the age of 12 years should refrain from usage of Benzaclin.

Precautions
Application of Benzaclin should be avoided to come in direct contact with eyes, mucous membranes, mouth or nostrils, as it could source irritation. Usage of Benzaclin may bleach hair and fabric. Use any other acne medication, only if your doctor recommends it. If a breast feeding or a pregnant woman is to apply it, a medical advice is recommended.

Drug Interactions
Benzaclin may interfere with the effect of other skin disease treatment drugs and hair loss or removal drugs, so it is imperative to tell your doctor about their usage before going for the drug.

Overdose
In case of overdose of Benzaclin one should contact local poison centre or emergency services. But before doing these one should wash away the cream with mild soap and warm water.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose, you should take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for the next dose, skip Benzaciln’s application and wait for the time for the next dose.

Storage
It should be stored away from direct sunlight at room temperature. Keep away from the reach of children.
